Teen View
SEE WHAT THE TEENVIEW 2024 CLASS HAS BEEN UP TO
Since 2000, the Nantucket Film Festival® has provided free educational opportunities for Nantucket teens throughout the year. In keeping with the Nantucket Film Festival’s mission of highlighting screenwriters and storytelling, and serving as a staple of NFF®’s educational initiatives for over nineteen years, Teen View on NFF® focuses on empowering Nantucket teens by cultivating young filmmakers and teaching critical storytelling skills.
In 2014, Nantucket Community Television joined NFF® as an educational partner for the Teen View® Labs, each year conceiving a new curriculum and guiding the students through the Spring Labs and Production Week. The program encompasses writing, directing, producing, and editing Labs with a Production Program during the week of the Festival, where students can participate in crews filming the NFF Signature Programs. All students will have the opportunity to present their short film projects to the island community during the Festival.
We are incredibly thankful to the local organizations that provide yearly grant support.

Foundation Grant Support from:
Labs
Nantucket High School students participating in NFF®’s Teen View Labs with NCTV have an opportunity to develop the basic skills required to write, shoot, and edit documentary and narrative films. Students spend the late winter and spring in the labs creating films from four to six minutes long. The films are then analyzed and critiqued by their peers, and the students’ finished products have their world premiere screenings during the Festival.
Teen View Showcase
AS PART OF OUR COMMITMENT TO YOUTH EDUCATION, WE’RE ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET FOR STUDENT FILMMAKERS!
During the Festival, we present all the short films that are produced by the Nantucket High School students participating in our Teen View Labs. This exhibition of the work they wrote, directed, produced, and edited is a mix of narrative and documentary films. Students have the opportunity to show their work to a Festival audience, complete with a Q&A following the screening.

Teen View Jury
A group of Nantucket seventh and eighth-graders are selected to be on a jury with the goal of picking the best short film at the festival. The middle school students screen, deliberate, debate, and judge each film, and in the process learn the fundamentals of critical film analysis. At the end of the festival, the jury presents the Short Film Award to the film that rises above the rest.
