The American Revolution examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down.
Ken Burns returns to the Nantucket Film Festival with a new installment from his landmark documentary The American Revolution. Expanding on last year’s program, this presentation shifts focus to the language and ideas that ignited a revolution, with an extended look at the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, and the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Following the screening, Burns will lead a conversation examining the ideals articulated in 1776 as America approaches its semiquincentennial. More than a recounting of history, this timely conversation is about who we are, and who we aspire to be.
